SERENITY, INFINITY, SOLITUDE, BEAUTY,
VIVID COLORS, CORAL GARDEN, breathtaking, awe-inspiring,
and just plain old fun!
What's it like to be under water? Well,
when you ask Diving Instructor/Scuba Operator Colette
Diede, she says, "First there you have the incredible
experience of breathing underwater, I still get a kick
out of it even after 20 years of diving. Then there
is the excitement and adventure of seeing sealife up
close and personal, and to top it off, like the chocolate
sauce on a Hot Fudge Sunday, you encounter an "other-worldly"
experience where you truly can glimpse the concept of
infinity, solitude, grandeur, much like the feeling
you get when you gaze at the stars".
After teaching scuba in St John for 5
years, the last 3 as an independent instructor, She
has recently expanded her operation to include boat
charters. A day spent with 6-Paq Scuba is a day tailored
to your own experience and concept of an ideal diving
day.
When learning, Colette believes the best
way to develop scuba skills is from shore. "We
carefully select the learning environment. We take our
students to sites where things like waves, crowds, peer
pressure, currents, are at a minimum. This allows each
learning diver to focus on getting used to the underwater
world at their own pace without other things complicating
the learning process. It works for just about everyone!
She says. While scuba diving is exciting, exhilarating,
and relaxing, learning to dive can be very intimidating
to many people. We do our best to put our learning divers
at ease. We start shallow, go slow and let everyone
get comfortable before we move onto the next step. But
we learn in a beautiful bay with fish, coral, turtles,
so that you can still "See the Real Thing"
while you learn. Afterwards we usually stop in Coral
Bay and chat over the events of the day. So it rounds
out the whole experience. That and they care about each
client, so everyone comes back feeling like they've
been out with their buddies all day sharing a great
new experience.
They do something similar from their boat.
We'll find the best sites for the level of the experience
of our divers. We have a fast, smooth-riding boat, so
we can go to our favorite sites. (That's why I got the
boat I did this year). It's a brand new 26' Power Cat.
With the twin hull and twin 4-stroke Yamaha engine,
it rides almost like a magic carpet. People who've gone
out with us have said, "she (the boat) floats,
she flies, she dances!" We try to do nice long
dives, with a good rest or surface interval in between
and then a second long dive. We love to be out on and
under the water just like other divers, so we don't
rush back. We'll either do a picnic lunch, stop at one
of favorite watering holes or skin dive, or just cruise
around the islands after the dives, which lets everyone
sit back relax, and savor the experience together. It
becomes a whole diving day, rather than a hurried dive.
